Friends in My Garden- 39

Earthworm- Crawling on my terrace

This time I have a true friend of my garden, nick named “Farmers’ friend”. That is none other than Earthworm!
I apply vermicompost in my vegetable garden that I have on my terrace. Trying to go organic  🙂
Earthworms eat up the humus in the soil and the worm casting is manure. They burrow the soil and aerate it.
During the last rain, I observed a phenomenon. It rained heavily during the night and  hordes of earthworms had crawled out of the ‘Growbags’ . Generally we can’t see them in the Growbags.

They were all over the terrace in the morning and I had to collect and put them back to where they belonged. That was an urgency as crows were waiting and already feasting on them!
I didn’t forget a to click a few pictures of them and here they are.

  2. Worms are always welcome visitors in the garden, although our girls always used to scream when heavy rains brought them out in numbers on the sidewalk. Our neighbor used to bring us really large earthworms to feed our garter snake and salamander. Some of them were really huge and gave the snake quite a wrestling match before they were finally devoured. Nice capture, Indira!

  3. Nice post Madam. I used to see them a lot in my old home garden and the soil used to be quite soft because of them. We were a bit scared too as kids due to their snake like look. Rainy seasons would bring them out and we used to keep a stick from the broom in front of the tip of their head and off they use to run away into the soil.

  4. Happy to see that you are nurturing more nature in your surroundings. 👌🏻👏🏻It’s so rare these days to find them on the earth,to be precise when the real earth has become too rare how can an earthling exist 😞
