Four Hoppers

Hi… I am back here with ‘Friends from my garden’ 🙂

Today I am with four hoppers; I mean, four grasshoppers living in my garden. Each one is unique in its own way.

They are all short-horned grasshoppers different from katydids, which have much longer antennae. They are probably the oldest living group of chewing herbivorous insects.

They have powerful hind legs for leaping vigorously and almost all of them have wings, with a few exceptions. Another feature is the camouflage they exhibit.

Grasshoppers can be pests feasting on our plants but in some countries they are eaten by the locals!

  1. Indira, the fact that grasshoppers are such beautiful creatures is something I just understood. The wingless one is so beautiful, in brilliant contrasts. Loved the writeup too!👌 your photos bring incredible life to the little beauties of nature!
